Need to write a few thousand words of application letter, due in Friday morning. Competition is steep as the other applicants will all have great letters and talked loads of office-speaky initiatives and self promotion. I've wanted this particularly job for seven years since I didn't get it last time for not having the appropriate quals. I've got the quals now but no motivation to blow my own trumpet and put myself through an interview process in which I'll need to smile throughout.

If you wanted it 7 years ago, why don't you want it so much now?

I got like this with my promotion as i didn't get it frst time.

You just need get your motivation back, i found it embarrasing speaking myself up and blowing my own trumpet, but realised that what it needs someone who can sell just how good they are.

I knew the stuff but didn't have the confidence to show it whilst other people on my same level we're self promoting themselves, needless to say i didn't get it first time round.

No matter how cringe worthy it is just gotta do it i suppose.

Be honest and to the point. Write the letter but dont make it wanky like most HR shit seems to be these days. I'm ace because I'm amazing etc etc

I cant be like that - and will never be like that

Stick to plain FACTS about your qualifications, experience and where you see your career going with them.

do they have you in their radar? if so from the get-go Incentivise, touch base with who you need to, take your idea showers, and get get all your ducks in a row.

Don't forget you can't turn a tanker around with a speed boat change.

or like AK says, tell them you aren't that person. If I was interviewing I'd let out a little sigh of relief!

just remember micra_pete believes in you Ian.

just tell them in the letter / application etc exactly what you have told us. i.e.

you wanted the job 7 years ago, but didnt have the qualification, so you have been working hard to get those qualification so one day just maybe the job becomes free again...

i'm the same, hate having to talk about skills etc in interviews, it just isn't me. I think the best way is to get it on paper, but make sure it is stuff you actually believe in and match the job to you rather than thinking about what they want (to a point that is, this is a risk but if you don't get it then maybe it isn't for you.)
