high fuel consumption could be due to worn piston rings/low compression?

Ragging it threw gears to go somewhere can cause high fuel consumption

I get 25mpg with my 1.2 8v.
My problem is that's the way most C12NZ's are. Shite on fuel.
The 1.0 12v should be good on fuel, you havn't took the air filter off or anything have you? Check for loose bolts on the inlet (where air comes in).
If it's not more air getting in the engine, then your engine is down on performance or you're nailing it everywhere
