Why don't you want to mount them onto the mounting points?

That diagram's a bit odd, so the shoulder harness have to go to a 20 degree angle from the shoulders, but not mount to a bar?
Where they going to mount to, the rear window?

Roll cage or a harness bar.

It means that you're not meant to loop 4 point harnesses because they can slip.

Though I think that only applies if you're not using bucket seats with harness holes.

but technically with an eye bolt fixing they are looped through that any way ed arent they? As it runs through the metal bit with the hook on? I have to put them to the roll cage. Seen loads and loads done like this so not sure what the deal is?

But with an eye bolt there's no risk of them slipping, but if you've got a proper seat with harness holes then they ought not to slip too. That version of that diagram isn't great, I'll try find the proper annotated one today if people are interested, that was only to answer harrisp's question about the angles the webbing should go at.

Yea, so long as it's fixed to the cars chassis. They do it all the time on WRC cars e.t.c...

mounting them to the cage is absolutely fine, they sometimes weld the eyelets to the cage to prevent them from slipping around, but as said with seats with a dedicated hole for each strap, this wont be a problem
