A mate of mine who buys and sells cars had a car in which had a bit of a cloudy headlight so he decided to give it a clean, the only thing he could find to hand was some brake cleaner, so he squirted a bit in the head light and swilled it around then tipped it out.

Afterwards the light looked really clean but there were still driplets of brake cleaner inside so being the genius that he is he decided to dry it out using a heat gun.

You can guess what happened next!

KABOOOOOOOOOOOOOM!

Half of his hair is singed and he's burnt all the hairs up his nose so all he can smell is burnt hair.

I nearlly pissed myself when he turned up at my house half bald with a red face and stinking of burnt hair and brake cleaner.

Fantastic! I love stories like this.

Once at a car show at Billing there was a woman filling up her rat-rod with a Jerry can WHILE smoking. We all kept a nice 20foot radius and just watched in awe

I dont know, but I was working on a bike with dad, and he was smoking and I mentioned that he would cause a fire or something along those lines, so he got a small container with petrol and put his fag out in it.

The fumes are flammable not the liquid, and it's more naked flames really. A cigarette could light petrol.

It's the fumes that catch fire, not the liquid, your dad was right, but at the same time, you can guess hovering a cigarette around petrol fumes is a bad idea from the start. Still not clever to put it out in liquid petrol, as you're approaching it with the cigarette, it may catch the fumes.

You can chuck a lit fag in a bucket of petrol.. Generally its not hot enough to ignite it.

Few years ago I was working in a garage, the other mechanic smoked. A car came in with a suspected petrol leak so he lit a cig then went and had a gander. Customer's face was priceless
