Astra G vxr turbo cooling kit

One brand new VXR turbo
before used to go flat 5k, now just pulls to limiter! feels more laggy mind, doesnt come on boost fully until 3k,
might wind the actuator back up see if it brings in more boost to better pick up, but pulls alot smoother harder for longer
turbo owe me £150 profit, as sold my old turbo already

Nice one matey On the standard map with the VXR turbo I found the flat spot at 2400-3000 worse than with the standard turbo. However with a map it shouldn't have said problem!

on the stage one for standard turbo, had a flat spot at 5k where it dips in power
with the correct vxr turbo map, thats gone, and im proved pick up slighty too
but i think i need to wind actuator back up, as before it used to slip the clutch and would spin the wheels easier coming on boost - need a boost gauge it set it up tbh

Warren, you shouldnt fuck with the actuator on electronic boost controlled cars! The boost solenoid cuts the pressure to teh actuator, if you tighten it up you'll confuse the fuck out of the ECU.

what he said, my mate done it on his ibiza and it cut boost to like 8psi and thats on a car that should be running 15psi, put the car into a kinda limp mode

The solenoid pulses to control the boost going to the actuator so it doesnt matter if its limp or tight the ECU will monitor boost via the MAP sensor and control the boost, if you over tighten the actuator the ECU can no longer control the boost smoothly and you'll get nasty spikes and mushroom pistons!

So how do you control over boost then if you don't adjust the actuator? If the actuator doesn't have any resistance it will open too early. You need to adjust it to within the parameters of the map, however NOT over them!

Sorry let me start again. ECU controls overboost actuator controls held boost stays. So if it's tailing off top end the actuator is weak.

Oh and on mine I was OB to around 17 psi and holding 12-13 now i'm more like 20 OB and 17 held, still needs adjusting slighly more. Should be 21/23 OB (depending where you read it from) and 18/20 held.

You dont really want overboost and spikes which are created by having a tight actuator because the ECU isnt going to compensate enough with fuel/timing.

whats the thin pipe go to next to the boost pipe on the right?

what i meant was i need boost gaugue to set up the actuator properly, i dont think its running full boost that the map is set too
still have simular problem as before, power doesnt seem to be constant, sometimes its fooking rapid, others feels like its holding back
going to remove the rear bcs and vac box next!
was quite surgy tonight, though i had to put 95 in it :s
stupid turbo's

they come standard with overboost then a held level of boost.

mines abit strange, some times to comes on boost realy hard, some times not
so far i have tried and replaced, afm, front bcs (new one on turbo anyway) pressure tested boost system,
need to get a boost gauge!

Yeah I think Fad replaced both of them on Rachels old GSi, would explain why it felt like it was holding back when I drove it.
The things are useless, always going.

mate of mine had stage 3 astra gsi with vxr turbo etc, adjusted the acuator a little and bang these goes the engine!
i had my mapped and set up at courney, yea its expencive but have piece of mind. they do a health check on it first and sort any issues before any mapping and boosts excatly the same everytime u go out in it! and this is almost 18months after having it done!

His engine went bang due to winding his boost up? Forgive me for sounding arogant, that didn't happen!
As has been said the ECU will knock the boost back/timing etc.
What may have happened is he used a dawes device or bleed valve, wound in too much boost and it went bang.
These maps are built with differences in, most of them overfuel to make it safe, so an extra 2 psi won't kill it.
On my old cLET I used to run 30psi in 5th and 6th as I had copied chips that didn't seem to have any problem with it. They were 'EDS phase2' meant to be set at 21psi iirc. I killed K16's monthly. lol
