My mate seems to think that if your over 21 and have a full driving licence, you dont need to do a cbt to ride a scooter aslong as its insuered and he wont listen to what i got to say and is driving around with out a cbt so im just curious what could he get done for if he gets pulled over with out a cbt?

You need a CBT for any bike at any age.

don't think you need a CBT if you passed your car license before a certain date but it was recommended to do it.
edit: I quote from the direct.gov.uk website "If you obtained your car licence before 1 February 2001 you do not need to complete a CBT to ride a moped."

Yes, I think it's 2002. If you passed before then you can ride a 50cc scooter on L's.

But as AlunJ says, do your CBT if you haven't been on a bike before.

He'd be reported for riding/driving otherwise in accordance with a licence.
And the bike would be taken.
A few points and a fine for his trouble. He'd more than likely be reported for no insurance as well, given that his insurance will probably be invalid without the CBT.

if you passed your car license before '99 or something like that (check first), you don't need a CBT to ride a moped of 50cc or less.

2001 or below dont need a cbt, if you took your test after 2001 you need a cbt but can ride without l plates ( used to work in a scootershop )

I feel sorry for you guys.
I got my prov on my 16 birthday and rode my 50cc bike on the road the same day.
We could do the same with a 125cc at 17 on L plates....no tests, nothing.
