Look at what's missing and guess what went wrong?

Chain cut clean through the mudguard...

Home bound...

Dropped it down a gear to accelerate and it just spat the chain out the back leaving me bouncing off the limiter and going nowhere! Can only presume it had a tight spot and hard acceleration was too much for it, feel sorry for the people behind me....just thanking my lucky stars, could have gone so wrong as any bikers will know!

Yea mate definetly. Still starts and goes through gears ok so I think I got off lightly, no the hunt for mudguard, chain guard and chain & sprockets now!

Worst thing is I come out of that unscathed yet when taking the bike apart I slipped off the socket and sliced 2 of my fingers open on the sprocket so bandaged up now! lol

how many miles has the bike done as they all need a chain and sprocket at serten times.

Your lucky that you only hit the limiter seen engines that missed gears and they aint prity. Lucky you only did the mud guard tho could have been a lot worse

if the teeth on your sprocket are starting to look more like hooks than point then its time to be changed anyway. i know on push bikes using a new chain on old sprockets is asking for trouble anyway as they wear into each other if you get what i mean

See this quite a lot as I'm one of those unlucky recovery drivers. Not a nice thing to happen I'm sure.

Just back from a 10 minute session on the bike that we were all happy to come back alive from..

I'll be replacing both sprockets aswell as the chain, they generally come as a kit anyway!

Not sure if you have a good memory but it's just occured to me I've broken down 3 times now in the space of a mile on that part of the A2.

First time with my Corsa when the wheel came off, bit further up Fiesta water pipes froze solid and engine overheated, and now half a mile on from that this happened

Top of the hill near BW yeah?

Offfff thats bad. Lucky to have a leg left tbh!! I only replaced my chain a week ago after it spat out the internal links that ride over the sprocket. Smoothest riding of my life to get that to the shop.

But its wiped out my front and rear sprocket, so need those as well now.

New chain, new sprocket, she'll be fine. But i can only think it was mega dry and had a HUGE tight spot as a chain and sprocket really should at least 10,000-15,000 miles.

Yea that's it Daimo.

I have no idea if it's ever been changed and it's done 16k now. Was kept well lubed but I think it was just a tight spot from sitting in the same position for long periods of time. Just dunno what chain to get, o ring x ring etc mean nothing to me!

Yep! New chain and sprockets ordered, £112 so not too bad. Gearbox sprocket should be fun to remove.

tbh the gearbox end should be fine. Mine needs replacing at 30k as I mentioned about. Its usually the chain and rear that needs replacing.

Very unlucky, but lucky at the same time m8.

I've just been doing my chain today, was hoping to go out this afternoon, but it dulled over and started spitting with rain. Was sunny and warm when I woke up this morning

Could have been worse. I've seen pics of were either a chain has got caught in the back wheel and locked it up or where has broken free and taken a large chunk out of someones Alpinestars SM boots.

I've always found http://www.bandcexpress.co.uk/ the best for chains and sprokets. I'd change both sprockets with a new chain. Front is generally cheap anyway about £15.

Always used a Tsubaki X ring and Renthal combo.

Headlight protector covers, dark or smoked. Generally held on with plastic velcro tabs.
