Getting a bit desperate for a car now...

Would you give £800 for this.....

http://www.pistonheads.com/sales/1459588.htm

..... if clutch had been done, head unit was fitted properley etc? I've text the bloke and it's still up for sale, I think it would look ok lowered, even though it's completely not the type of car i've been looking for?

I reckon it might be a bit dodgy but regardless let me know your thoughts!

Or what about this one?

can't you look out for a completely standard one?

the 8v's will go forever if they've been properly looked after, the 2 you posted look chavved up and might not have been serviced/cared for?

I can do yes just wanted opinions on these, and I can't really travel far for one. I think the fact i'm so desperate for a car is making me consider shit heaps. Every time a car pops up that I would buy it's already sold

it's always worth checking ebay

an 8v gti is a good shout as a cheap car as they're bulletproof and quite well built for what they are.

have you considered a vento or even a golf estate or is it important to be a 3 door gti?

I have been keeping an eye on Ebay (along with P/heads, autotrader, local papers etc) just struggling to find anything that catches my eye. I would only really a 3 door gti if going for something that old....

I am more interested in a cheap puma or even a focus or astra but (obviously) they don't come up in my price range locally very often and when they do they sell quickly

I disagree with you there, I bought an S reg Astra that was spotless, not a mark on it for £700, I ran it for 8 months without spending a penny on it, before I sold it to my girlfriend (now ex), since then shes battered it , dents everywhere etc and hasnt been looked after at all but its still going strong 3 years on after I bought it. Just keep looking Tom, they are out there...

Heres the one I bought:

Something like that would be pefrect, I think I need to act a bit quicker if i'm to stand any chance of getting a bargain.

Just seen this for £900, looks ok to me but I reckon it'll be sold...

Just had a quote of £650 for the GTI-6 which isn't too bad considering.
