If the roof is dented cars are usually written off when that happens.

Was closed properly. Faulty catch to blame, just pings open when it gets the slightest touch - shame I didn't know that before
She'll fix though, arsed writing it off.

It's a pretty poor mechanism on a Subaru encase you didn't know, doesn't take a lot to force it open.

Thats really common on the Impreza, the bonnet latches go all rusty and stop closing up properly and most people dont double check by giving it a tug.

One of them is clearly me! It's a shame really, tempted to go down the aero-catch route now...

Just keep the standard one lubricated and always check it!

Good point, anyone know if there was ever a re-call?

Will do in the future, I think for the time being then I will replace it and keep the new one well lubricated.

not really im sure if there is a design fault then the problem will have occured well before now, and as its a massive issue of safety involved there would be a recall, hence my 8 year old corsa being recalled for seat belt tensioners once

The newer ones have the same problem.. Subaru dont zinc coat/galvanise the mechanism so the first hint of road salt and it start corroding like a bitch.
The service schedule says it should be lubricated so its the responsibility of the owner to make sure the car is serviced correclty.

Oh well, that's fair enough. I guess it's something you take for granted, not really one of the items I've thought about maintaining in the past.

So in reality its not a faulty mechanism its a poor service routine.

You could get a PDR man to remove the roof dents.
