a mate of mine just put a set in his escort (2l 16v zetec conversion) and they sound epic - not sure on any actual power gains, but's worth doing for the sound alone.....
just wondering if its possible to do on my 1.4 8v corsa? or is it just 16v lumps that you can do this to?

The £ per performance would make it so un-worthy of doing it.

not too bothered about power tbh (I drive a 1.4 8v - nuff said )
its the noise and look I'm after. just wondering if its a bolt on jobbie like it was on his escort or not
ps: I know he had to fabricate an inlet manifold to get it on - thats not a problem

I'm not asking if its worth it .... I have spunked about 8k into a 12 year old corsa, being worth it is not the issue
is it possible? is the inlet on an 8v block like a 16v - just 4 holes on the side that I could make a manifold up to meet the R1 carbs?

I can pick up some R1 carbs for next to nothing and get a manifold made up by a mate who is a fabricator for 6 beers
what else would I need to get it running?

How much would they cost to be put onto the above engine and at what power would it achieve?

You'd need to sort out the spark. I'm assuming the 8v SRi's run on a dizzy? Not sure but you might be able to use an old Cavvy dizzy to get them running.

surely the coilpack would stay put? carbs would replace the airbox etc.

It's not the positioning. It's how your car will get it's spark.

You could run ignition management in your DIS pack. Something like a Megajolt ECU would do the job and I believe they're compatible with GM DIS. Otherwise there are a wide number of other options, including converting it back to a distributor with a coil pack.
You'd probably want to replace the exhaust manifold and replace the big end bolts on your crank rods to some ARP items for performance ans safety respectively.

so the current ecu and coilpack are not up to the job?

i am finding it strange to read that the reason for wanting r1 carbs and spending all the necessary money is only to get the sound they make. madness.

kit neeed
R1 fuel pump
R1 carbs
custom inlet manifold
8v dizzy, coil & leads
throttle & choke cable to suit
standard ecu, dispac, airbox and inlet go in the bin
only problem I have now is knowing what dizzy to get? the conversions I have seen have been 2l lumps and have been running early 2l 8v dizzys because if the timing advancement curve, does that mean I need an early 1.4 dizzy or am I mistaken?

you will find all the info you need there, would your mate be interested in making me a custom manifold for zx6r carbs?
you will also need a Fuel pressure regulator

I read that but no info on what dizzy to use on a 1.4 .... they are all using the 2l dizzy, but then they are all doing it to 2l lumps
