Have you even contacted Sony? If its 3 years old, its still covered by the Sales of Goods act.

I think it can relate to a number of problems.
Watchdog said it was down to "dry joints" and that the solder needed re-heating, but Sony said that was bullshit.

Phone Sony and get them to fix it. They're pretty good with out of warranty repairs. If they don't play ball, take it back to the place you bought it from.

What Dan said. Take it back to the store and tell them you expect a product of this value to last 5-6 years. They will change it for you should you quote the sales of goods act.
If they still won't do it, contact Trading Standards who will take it up with the store for you.

Got it from Zavvi! lol So can't take it back there! Sony won't repair it they just want to charge me £130 for a recon with a 3month Warrenty!
Yellow light of death covers loads of things from overheating to failed hardrive! Just gonna buy a slim to replace it!
