As above really.

Now im not one to go to the Dr's often, infact I think the last time was 4yrs ago when I had the mumps but today due to suffering some abdominal pain & going back offshore tomorrow so wanted to get looked at as I think I might just have a hernia. After todays episode I just got left with the impression free healthcare for all isnt quite what it was meant to be 50+ yrs ago!!

Spent all day trying to get to see a Dr 1st by appointment with a GP, then attempting to book myself into both the minor injuries ward, then casualty. Each time I was fucked off with please phone NHS 24hr. So you call them & they just fob you off further & wont give you an appointment!!

Basically after trying all day to have a Dr check me over to no avail ive given up. I think it would be easier to find father xmas than a Dr.

The hospitals I visited & I did go to a few were just over run with silly old women who didnt want to check me out & seemed to be programmed with 'call NHS 24hr' while stuffing a leaflet into your hand. Absolute piss take. Probably need to be a immigrant or unemployed single mother about to push out her 5th bundle of joy to get any service in that joint!!

The NHS gets a lot of stick.

I was in for just under a week in 2005 with an eye problem.

I have no complaints, staff were very nice, friendly and talkative. I saw 13 specialists from all over the country. Also the food was a lot better than people would have you believe,

They also all said by as I was allowed to go home!

I'm just glad i'm hardly ever ill.

We had to go the drop-in clinic recently and it was horrible. Not the staff, just the scum that was in there.

Although they did give my girlfriend something which irritated her ear infection instead of curing it, leading to 3 days of crying, and eventually we had to go to AnE, who were brilliant with her, and got her sorted in about 20 mins.

My grandad did nearly die after a routine hip replacement earlier in the year though.

In conclusion, I have no real opinion on the NHS

Although the NHS is a joke, some doctors you can get an appointment that day, others you wait for weeks.

Although the waiting for weeks situation is a joke imo, you should know what system the doctor works on.

I don't mind the hospital system. It's the local GP surgeries that are bad.

I had to call 200 times to get an appointment one morning. Other times it has taken weeks to get one!

I have made an official complaint but just got the owner of the surgery on the phone saying "we're going to look into the system".

We should be able to get appointments whenever we want and not have to phone between 8-10am in the morning.
fucking stupid

In the last few years ive had many occasions when my family members have needed the NHS, as my grandad had a stroke 4 years ago and now lives with us, and my mum was very ill for years before she died, both always had excellent service. My grandad has always had good care from the NHS and whenever an ambulance has been called out for him (around 4 times a year on average) theyve been at my door within minutes. Once he's in hospital the care hes received has been excellent, and hes never once complained. And ive rung up our local surgery when ive needed a check up and i usually get an appointment for the same day.

May just have been your local GP?

Depends entirely on your docs tbh

My doctor surgery i can arrive at 7:30 and be seen at 8, no appointment necessary. Suits me just fine. Years of faultless service.

The mrs's docs she can always get anappointment for a couple of days time.

A&E on the other hand, they're chonically stretched, wouldn't feel right going there unless my arm had come off!

The GP wouldnt give me an appointment because ive moved outwith their catchment area (ive just moved 5 mins drive away) & because they have my medical record still I cant go to another GP until they allocate me one which will only happen once ive signed some forms there gong to send me.

Im now going to have to go to work 1hr away from dry land for 2 weeks & just put up with the pain im in & then 'try' & arrange an appointment when I return.

In short its going to take me around 3 weeks just to get checked over.

Lets hope its nothing life threatening!!!

It seems to me that if you need urgent help (or even semi-urgent help) they'll bend over backwards to help you.

If you want to see a GP you might as well just give up hope now. My currently local one is pretty good. My sister needed to see someone just this week and she had been seen within 3 hours of asking for an appointment.

My previous one was shocking though. Just always booked up and you'd have to wait 3/4 days for an appointment that was semi-convienent.

No complaints with the NHS here, was in hospital earlier this year with a broken hand, shattered wrist and broken arm. Had to wait 2 weeks for operations. Currently going to NHS physio every week, not perfect but I am still very impressed.

When I was in the 'minor injuries' ward there was me, a man with a cut finger (fuckall) with his wife & daughter & a man with a bashed elbow (fuckall), basically i'd be embarrassed to go to a 1st aid box with these injuries never mind a hospital. Im the one thats in pain here facing the unknown, at least these 2 can see what the problem is!!

I bet I was the one in most discomfort, however because there was no blood dripping I was the 1st to be fucked off!!

The Nurse told me there were no Dr's in the hospital as well

What a load of shitcunt!!

Colin, do you have any physical indications of a hernia? Not being an arse, but maybe just pulled a muscle if you haven't? Unless your stomach pain is crippling, a&e won't look near you as it's not exactly an emergency.

Also, no doctors in a hospital? Where did you go?!

Colin run into your A&E throw yourself on the floor screaming, shit your pants and dribble some ketchup. Only then be prepared to run when they diagnose 'bad wind'

Ive had pains down there for about 2 months now, but left it under observation in case it was just a muscle or something. Then I done a bit of physical work yest in the house garden etc & must have agrivated it, got a lot more painfull....I didnt get to sleep at all last night.

I was at Falkirk, E&A's shut now & they only have a minor injury ward instead. E&A gets shifted to Stirling.

The NHS would be a better place if fucking retards didn't visit, when I last went to into A+E with a broken hand, there was arseholes with nothing wrong eg a boy that was in for a broken arm(I over heard) and he was arm wrestling his mum with the same arm , I was seriously ready to shout at the fuckers.

I don't think they do much apart from tell you to go have some paracetamol too if you've got a hernia.

If you have a proper hernia, they operate on you and put in steel mesh to stop it from happening again.

I've had two hernias before. Both had to be operated on and neither resulted in any steel mesh.

I find I can usually get an appointment with my doctors the same day. I have private health care through work if anything serious pops up so hopefully wont have to deal with the NHS in that case
