In a bit of a whirl over what I should do.

I own a R27 clio - 2 and a half years old - with exactly 30k on the clock. Its in very good condition for its age but does have some significant damage on all of the alloys. The car is paid for - I traded in my cooper s and have paid the difference off.

Basically I love the car- it blows me away pretty much every time I drive it - I do quite a few miles and they are mainly on A roads and B roads so its the perfect size for me.

Having said that after test driving the new clio 200 I actually think its marginally better ..... I just can not get to grips with the looks of the thing - If I was to get one then it would have to be in white with the black trim and wheels as I think thats the only colour which makes the front look bearable.

The other option is to keep the car long term - how many miles do you think these 197 engines are good for without a load of hassle?

The dealer phoned me a couple of days ago saying they are desperate for r27s in black to sell second hand - they have offered me £10k for mine and a new 200 with recaros and cup pack for 19k on 4 year 0% finance.

Just dont know what to do - if I could buy a 200 that looked like a 197 I would do it tomorrow but just dont know if I can learn to love the new clio?

My car -

New 200 in white/black

wouldnt have the spoiler though

I actually really like the new Clio - it took me a while but now I think they're great looking little cars.

Spoiler makes these cars imo. Looks terrible without.

I really couldn't justify going from one, to a very slightly better and slightly newer model. If anything i'd change cars, and move back if I missed it.

thats like upgrading a 1996 corsa to a 1997 corsa just becuase of the facelift. Not worth it imo, save the money and either get something different, or keep the same car.

Keep the Clio you have now. Imo, its the better looking of the two plus you aren't gonna get any more performance outta the 200 than the 197.

Im not really upgrading just to get more performance (thats an addded bonus)...... im at that point where if I dont get the value out of my car now im going to be sticking with it for good. Warrante runs out in oct - its tempting to trade in now - will have lost just over 4k on the car in 3 years if I trade in now... I could maybe even sell private and get a little more- I like having a car under warrante that I know wont cost me anymore money - plus its always nice to get a new car.

Its just that I like this car enough that I might actually consider keeping it long term

I think the 200's look wicked now, didn't like them at first, I'd probably trade it in, I agree it's nice to have a car on warranty!

it's not worth an extra £9k

If you really desire one then why not get a used 200:

Yeah buying second hand is an option but it would have to be very low mileage with most of its warante or it defeats the purpose of selling this one

I kind of agree its not worth 19k ----- why the fuck could I buy my r27 for 15.5k yet the new ones are 3-4 grand more???? There is not really any other car out there that I like enough to buy new though.

Actually its almost 5k - got my maths wrong

Just phoned the dealer again to see what he would do a 200 for if I paid up front rather than interest free credit...... they will give it me for my R27 plus 8k - so thats 18k all in basically

yeah, go for a low mileage 2nd hand. You'll save on the VAT and shit, plus it'll have warranty.

that green one was just a quick example, there's loads more around.

I will never buy new again! unless I win the lottery.

I did the maths on buying a new 200 on paper compared to my 182 and basicly it would cost me double the 182 over 3years even though monthly payments where similar.

Still want a new car mind!

Id choose a 200 or Abarth500

all the people saying they dont like the 200 will be saying how much they love it in a year or so.

197's are gorgeous, but 200 is so much more modern and very very striking in the flesh. The 197 from a distance just looks like any old clio IMO...

In my mind you've already got an ace car and you've said yourself that you love it.

I can't see that spending another £9k is going to get you a lot for your money really. I'd stick with what you've got for a couple more years.
