1.6's are far from dead, it just depends how much you're willing to spend on one

out of the 2 above I would go for the GSI

Astra is horrific on fuel. Clio is hugely economical, parts are cheaper too.

The Astra thing has been asked every other week now, do a search on peoples opinions, and check the classifeds for people selling their short owned Astras.

Clio is a drivers car, astra is for plodding on an Mway.

the clio sports are a a bitch to work on. my mate just bought one who is a mechanic, he had to do the clutch last week, which is an absolute bitch to do he reckons, it took him quite a while, and he has done a few other bits to fix it up to sell, and he wishes he didnt bother.

although he did say, when it is working, its a fun/quick motor

You'll get better consumption in the XE easily. I'd take the 182 personally.

i had a c20let astra mk3 running 280hp and could get 35-40mpg from that, up to 50 if you drove really boring

my vx220 with z20let same engine as astra, its is tuned but for 18mpg out of the last fuel tank!

I wouldn't of said my old GSI was the most reliable of cars tbh. You only need to look in the zlet section on Astra Owners Club and one in three posts is a problem post.

182 for me, excellent little cars

Probably one of the only cars I'd own without boost

Booo.

182 imo. Bought one last month and i love it! Fast, comfy, with all the mod cons i need, aircon, climate control, cruise control.

Getting 35-36mpg out of mine at the moment, 43 on long motorway journeys.

I was tempted by the astra but they just seemed abit boring compared!
