Brother's car has had a hole in one of the pistons. Trying to find a new piston but BMW only do a set of four at £500 but he only needs one according to the mechanic. Been trying to find one online but no joy so far, can anyone help?

Its a 2002 Mini Cooper 1.6 (its not a cooper s)

Maybe cheaper to replace the engine when you factor in the labour, pistons, bearings, head gasket, cambelt kit, water pump etc etc

Its just a piston, no need for bearings, head gasket, cambelt kit, water pump etc.
Can be done by removing the sump and doing it that way.

how'd you know there is a hole in the piston though without removing the head?

obv it would be down on compression but a number of things could cause that

Shouldn't pistons be replaced in sets of four or pairs because they're dynamically balanced?
