What have you got? Ive sold my Tamron 70-300 in favour of a canon equivalent, however im considering soemthing with a slightly larger aperture. For example a 70-200 f/2.8 - the canon one is well over 1k though so the Sigma looks promising. Im worried about compromising image quality though. What do you have? Any examples. Im thinking primarily for motorsport photography.

I had a 70-200 f/2.8 IS and it was boss.

Bought for 980, sold for 1060 many years later.

Even if you get bored, which you won't, you'll get the money back.

Its a great lens, only issues I had was the aperture which wasnt great under low light and pinking in bright sunlight. Ive also been advised IS is useful for panning shots.

IS is handy when you need it. I personally never really needed it doing outdoor motorsport stuff on nice days.

Although I always kept the shutter fairly fast while the light was there. If you were doing a nice 1/60th pan you would probably be thankful for it.

I was wondering this too. Have you made your coffee table with L lense legs yet?

I had the 300mm F4 prime and for the money it was fucking fantastic.

On 90% of days it lets in more than enough light and the image quality was miles better than anything cheaper. Even the F2.8 wasn't THAT much better (it was, but not £1500 better). Brilliant lens for motorsport and the lack of zoom wasn't an issue for me in the slightest.

That lens alone earnt me 4 times more than it cost, and I made a £150 profit when I sold it

I never really got out much with it, I've sold all my stuff now.

I had a 300 2.8 for a bit as well. That was an absolute monster but too damn heavy. Also sold for the same money I paid for it.

Bit more than that, pushing £4k now.

Over the lifetime of the lens though it'll hardly loose any money. Most L lenses are the same (more so the primes than zooms) - hold their value like a rock and could actually work out cheaper than a less-good lens (providing you can fund it in the first place)

Jesus, you don't appear to be that into photography, was it passed down / inherited the equipment? Or just don't show it / talk about it on here?

Would like to see some pics!
