Why would you not just either do it the day before, or leave it there overnight, or take it later, or go somewhere else, or go on Sunday, or make up something actually better to say.

When it was my 22nd and all my mates where going out round bolton, i was trying to get in contact with one of them and he wouldnt tb or reply etc. He then emailed me on facebook saying he had got a bad cough and he must of caught it from the ash from the ash cloud

More to the point, who has a party on a weeknight?
Blame the planner IMO. Assuming that was something posted yesterday?

We used to have a secretary at work who would pull the most random excuses for not going on work nights out.
One was that she was starting a Hairdressing course, which suddenly changed into an art and design course a couple of weeks later.
She also declined to go to a bosses wedding do because she was going away to Briton the next day, but her facebook for that day said she'd had a great day out shopping in Milton Keynes

He probably just didn't want to see you, so he made an excuse up.

Can't see the issue, obviously didn't want to go and didn't want to justify his reason. Nothing wrong with that.
Least he told you he's not going and just didn't bother turning up.

Nothing worse than someone saying there coming and not turning up

I went out and got pissed before my MOT. Phoned the garage when I woke up to say I would be late. No problem!

We were out for a friends birthday when one of our friends sent my mate a message saying
" aint coming, havin some sex lol"
What a dick, would be fair enough if he had just pulled but it was with his girlfriend of 5 years and we had planned his birthday weeks in advance.

Why because they don't want to go out and party?
They have said they don't want to come, and obviously don't want to say the real reason.
Sometimes its better to give a lame excuse, than to tell your friend simply "I don't want go out with you tonight." call me an arse, but as you get older, you want to go out less (depending on person).
GTM - Sorry but if I came home and my missis was dressed up for sex, I wouldn't be going out with my mates either

I'd rather someone said they didn't really feel up to going out than make-up a piss poor excuse. It at least shows they have the respect to be honest.
