Considering we have a Latest pics thread I thought I'd create a before and after Photoshop thread.

I try to get the best picture I can through the camera without having the need to 'Photoshop', as imho that is what photography is all about. However I know Photoshop could enhance my photos, but don't really know where to start.

I thought it would be a good idea for people to post their 'before and after' pics with a brief explanation of what they changed etc, so try and give some of us advice. This of course includes shooting in RAW and changing settings in Photoshop.

If the thread takes off it can may be be topped as well - hope all agree it's a good idea.

With most of the pictures I post I only give them light photoshopping with the auto tools, as it will sort out the lighting and tweak the colour balance slightly. The auto tone/levels tool I find really handy as it will usually brighten the image up a bit and make dull colours stand out a bit more.

Darken Shadows: +15%.

Day was a right nightmare - the sun was in then out, in then out.

Magic Wand Tool with a tolerance of 1 to 15 to select the card. Duplicate it was a layer and then remove colour from the background layer.

I would say most of my shots will have a fair amount of PP, manly edited in camera RAW, then onto photoshop to touch up bits / sharpen etc.

Don't have many examples. This was just to see what could be revealed.

Second looks a bit over-processed to me complex, although my screen here is pretty rubbish colourwise.

I usually just use lightroom to correct the levels and leave it at that.
