Is this now ancient?
i have been offered a cracking staff deal. Its only £14 a month and im after the sim, get a phone free and been debating the x10mini
i want to know if that OS id limited or shite in anyway.

These are the software differences between 1.6 and 2.0, to me these seem very minor.
Wireless Controls:
Airplane mode was at bottom, went to top
Mobile Networks – Cannot select 2G only, Network Operators or Access Point Names
Call Settings:
GSM vs CDMA differences
No “Use 2G only” – is Verizon touting their 3G expertise? What if we want to save battery? Hmmm…
Aut0-Retry
TTY Mode – text mode for deaf
Hearing Aids
DTMF Tones – the sounds you hear when you press buttons

Yes - this is ancient.
Android is moving very quickly which is great for getting new stuff in but it means quickly old models are not catered for very well.
2.0 is out, 2.1 is out, 2.2 is almost out (I think) I can see 2.4 being out by the end of the year.
Many of the function being added are now hardware dependant so its not just a case of reflashing.

i didnt expect it to be great, its tiny. Its not going to be a main phone, like a competitor to an iphone or anything. Its sweet f a a month and im getting it for the sim.
Ive used it alot and it seems great for what it would be used for

Not quite - the problem is all the operaters etc don't want to support multiple versions of OS on the phones and so won't release updates. Guy i sit next to at work has been waiting months for them to update his 1.6 phone. In the end he got bored waiting flashed it himself.
They need to develope a much slicker upgrade process so that the manufacturers have no fear about just moving by default as soon as a new version comes out.

It's the networks fault, not Android's.
If they just stuck on a stock rom without the customisations it would be easier.

They need to tie Android down so that it can't be branded like Apple have done. It'll sort a lot of the issues out...
