Was just after a quote to see the difference if I got a Ibiza cupra r and the insurance company has told me it's not a hot hatch, am I aone in thinking they are idiots??
What's the difference between the cupra and the cupra r, does it have a ko4 or a ko3s, does it run a different intercooler system ?
What's the handling like?? They are only 1100 kg so not as heavy as the golf? Iv heard the gearboxs are weak ??

cupra has 180
Cupra R has 225
Ko3 turbo single intercooler where as the Cupra R has bigger injectors, 2 intercoolers and bigger turbo
Edit - Thats for the Leon sorry

Cupra 150bhp
Cupra R 180bhp
SEAT later introduced a more powerful hot hatch, dubbed Cupra, and equipped with a turbocharged 1.8 litre engine, followed by the 1.8 litre turbocharged Cupra R, of which only 1000 units were produced.[citation needed] The main difference between the two was suspension, Brembo four-opposed piston front disc brake calipers, and a power upgrade from 156 PS (115 kW; 154 bhp) to 180 PS (132 kW; 178 bhp) on the Cupra R model.

Gearboxes are fine. R has brembos, red meatballs, centre gauges and different wheels. Same turbo just 180hp instead of 156. There were only 70 brought to the UK iirc

Ibiza Cupra R was a hot hatch
other superminis were running a lot less bhp at the time.

Handling and reliability are shocking. I had all Forge parts on my Revo'ed, new MAF twice and it would still limp mode saying faulty MAF. I had KWs and whiteline bars and it was still a barge.

My Cupra (non R) covered 40k miles in 4 years and all I spent on it was £20 for a new battery fuse holder. Most reliable car I've ever had.

i had an R, nice car
had the usual problem of fuse box on the battery and a coil pack other than that was great
R comes with carbon gearknob and engine cover, red seat belts, gauges in centre console, spare alloy wheel, also sits 15mm lower
i liked mine thought it was a great car tbh

Need to take a test drive I think, couldn't stand the understeer in the golf and didn't fancy spending 1-1.5k fixing it

Mine was awful. No end of problems. Uninvolving to drive. Boring every day shopping trolley really.
