New members can't just sign up and post a classifieds advert anymore, 30 day and 50 post restriction.

Nah it's not Ian, this guy is from Lancaster. I think his name is fine, his nickname could be Shifty and he maybe drives a 2.0.

IP shared with sumyh, used within half an hour of each other -
566508 2010-07-14 10:26:45
566999 2010-07-14 10:42:11
567135 2010-07-14 11:43:08
Same IP tried to register another account yesterday, nath567. Was denied.
No idea why it would be as none of the accounts has trade problems, in fact sunyh has a validated address and is currently selling bits off SR91's red GSi. Only reference to trade is this thread - http://www.corsasport.co.uk/board/viewthread.php?tid=566369
Not sure why he needs more usernames unless it's to get some fake praise.
Could also be a NAT network somewhere and there's a few people involved but I didn't get any explanation when I replied to the denial email.

The email address for sumyh comes back as a completely different person to the one from Shifty, although they are both from the same place. Could obviosuly write a fake email down. Not sure about that one then, does seem strange.

They're all Hotmail though so we can't be clear whether they were registered with that purpose. I'll run an electoral check later on the surname for shifty, see if comes back to the same house as the other guy. I would guess it does given it's a home broadband connection and he's unlikely to be subcontracting the network.

Going to sound silly, But could you not stop the hotmail adresses just signing up. If people want to join up with a hotmail account could they not email first?

Used to work like that until I got bored of replying to a million emails about Hotmail every day. And it's no more secure because you don't know a legitimate Hotmail account from a scammer one so you've no choice but to approve them all anyway.
