Taking a spare wheel out is utter stupid when your on the motorway.

If this is a long term move, sell up and get a diesel. My Mito does 53MPG with the cruise control on at 85.

I havent been driving with a spare wheel for about 2 years now, and have never needed it.... Seems stupid to me to keep it in there! BTW I always carry one of those sealent can things in case I get a flat.

I once got a puncture on the side of the A41, middle of december, pissing with rain and no light, no sealant would have sorted that, I had no AA/RAC cover at the time so if I hadn't have had a spare wheel then I would have been FUCKED.

If you want an honest answer, remove all the excell shite you carry around that isn't needed (sub and amp for example), get the car serviced and running sweet, take a cone filter off if you have one, standard exhaust, standard wheels.

Well, if you want daft suggestions, how about driving bare foot to save the weight from your shoes? Post them to your destination in advance. In fact, go the whole way and drive naked.

Yes but not enough to make a difference to your MPG.

Didnt Jeremy Clarkson say it would cost you an extra £5 in fuel in a year if you had a moustache?

To be perfectly honest with you you'd be pissing me off doing 60 on the motorway, if it's safe to do 70 you should be traveling with the flow of the motoroway

Keep your tyres at the right PSI, drive a bit more cautiously and your MPG will increase.

I work nights, so there is usually very little traffic on the roads anyway. Otherwise I'd agree with you completely.

Put your spare back in. Recovery costs will be far more than the cost of the fuel to carry it.

What kind of milage are you covering?
