Anybody on here tried it before? And did it work?
My Xbox broke so i sold it on ebay and went pretty quickly, so my mate gave me his old one thats broken as well and said i can fix it and use it if i want. Seen kits on ebay going for £4-£6 so could be worth a punt.
Any tips?

My friend did the x-clamp and it didn't last long before it RROD again

Ahh, well thanks for the info. Think i'll give it a try, £5 for a temporarily working xbox is good enough for me. Gives me more time to save up for a new one anyway

X-clamp repair will last anything from an hour to a couple of weeks, but it will inevitably die again before long without correct servicing. The odds are it won't do anything at all tbh.

Oh, maybe i wont bother doing it then ha, its a bit of a hassle taking it all apart. If only the new ones weren't £200!

I have done 3 xbox now and used decent thermal paste etc, 2 are still going strong and the other occassionally rrod. I changed the fan too on mine when i repaired it.

tbh the paste makes little difference. The screws you use are pulling the heatsink down and reconnecting the solder joints that have come loose, hence fixing the problem. You could leave the original gunk on there and replace the screws and have the same effect.
Like I said tho, there's always a chance it'll fix it, but usually they die shortly after without a proper reflow. Give it a shot anyway, nothing to lose apart from a fiver, although you can do it even cheaper. Just get 8 x 10mm M5 screws, 8 nylon washers and 16 metal ones. All in at a local hardware shop it's like 50p for the gear. You just need a Torx10 and Torx8 screwdrivers too to open the box.

Well i would have sent it off but i'd already opened it to try fixing it before, when i did that it lasted a few more weeks, even though all i did was open it and get all the dust out... So the warranty is void now because of those stupid little stickers they put on the case that void it when broken!

That'd work as long as he wasn't one of those douches who leaves screwdriver marks all along the back of the case trying to get it open. Some people 
Think people sell the stickers on wax paper for around a tenner. Probably worth it if still in warranty, although I'm positive it's 3yrs and not 5.

I bought a RRoD'd 'box off eGay and tried everything to fix it but nothing really worked. After oven baking it, it lasted an hour.
Knowing exactly what the problem is will help you alot if you're gonna attempt to repair it yourself.
I know what the problem is on mine and the graphics card needs resoldering back on to the m/board properly and I don't have the resources to do that myself and don't really wanna pay someone to do it.

Oven is like the worst idea ever!  That's heating everything on the board. May as well towel trick it lol
I can fix any xbox pretty much. 3 red lights is pretty much ALWAYS the GPU. I never even mess with the CPU heatsink, etc.
Once you've installed linux on your 360, you're pretty much a daddy at this kind of thing tbh

Its gotten results for ALOT of ppls so I don't agree with that.
The whole point in baking it is that it'll get so hot that the solders will melt then as it cools down will harden again. Considering the problem with mine is that the GPU isn't sitting on the m/board right coz of the solders, I think it was a very good idea.
Didn't work but was worth a try.

lol I'm not going to argue, but if you think putting your xbox into the oven is a good idea then be my guest. I don't care what youtube says. There's lots of capicitors, fuses and other things that you really shouldn't be tampering with when there's no problem with them. Why fuck around heating the entire board when you can just reball the GPU  I know people have had results from doing the "oven trick", but it's sheer luck that they didn't do more damage IMO. It's a similar principle to how towel tricking isn't a good idea.
Come to think of it, you could get a better result than your oven method by simply disconnecting the fan with the board popped out the box. You'll find that only the CPU and GPU heat up and not the rest of the board  Then after it's given you 2 red lights it'll probably work, but only for a short period, alike your oven method lol (although the xbox 2 red lights and cuts out at about 100C. I know you could achieve higher temps in the oven, but it'll still work the same and inflict less damage, trust me).
NobleOne, I'm also sceptical that you can visibly see the GPU sitting funny on the board too tbh.

So then Brett.. Fancy giving me some tips on what i should do with mine? I'd buy the sticker off ebay, but £10 for the chance that they might just send it back saying its been tampered with doesnt seem too worth it. Theres no scratches on the case etc when i opened it so it could be worth a try, has anyone else done it though?
