Lasst time I had an MOT the garage, which I use all the time, said that my cat was on the way out and hence why my engine management light had come on after scanning it through his diagnostics and assuring me this
So today I spent £230 getting a new cat and having it replaced. " hours later the light is back on! I'm in the process of getting hte car sorted so I can sell it. I also still owe him £60 for the labor etc. as he knows me. Where do I stand on this? As to say i'm a bit annoyed is an understatement.

depending on how picky the garage is that can fail aswell if the eml doesnt light when you flick the ignition on and go out when you start it technically is a fail.
also you arent addressing the issue which could cause it to fail regardless on emissions

Yes it can. Lambda sensors will get funny readings and pop the eml on.

But if you haven't got a lambda after the cat, it wont know the cat is fucked...

Depends what the car is.. Only Euro4 cars (2001+) have a pre-cat and there-fore an 02 sensor after it..
Whats the car? Common fault on Corsa C's is the F30 fuse blowing (IIRC) which kicks out an O2 sensor and MAF fault.

I hate getting a car ready to sell! They are all little niggly bits. This sensor doesnt technically do anything apart from tell me when I am polluting the world too much and its broken. Car runs perfect otherwise!
My new car budget slowly gets smaller

Im sure if you get vagcom it will be able to over ride this and blank out whichever sensor is being a dick.
