well I am looking to buy an exhaust from america for my quad bike the item is $249.99 and postage is $99.00. Does anyone know how much i'm likely to pay bastard customs?

Import Duty: £ 9.86
Import VAT: £ 30.48

£ 199.33 (assumes USD/GBP exchange rate of 0.636)

That's the total you pay, it's exchanged it from USD to GBP, i.e. $249.99 + taxes/vat/duty/vaseline converted to GBP

Yes as you get taxed on the shipped price. Rule of thum is it will probably end up costing around its $ price i.e. ~ £250 all in
