I've got both so I can give a fairly good comparison for you.
Both have their pros and cons.
The 206 is faster in a straight line, faster in the corners, feels a lot more stable when on a ragger.
The corsa feels heavier and smoother.
The 206 has far better creature comforts like auto wipers, digital climate control, cd multichanger.
Corsa has.... erm... nothing on the 206 in terms of interior spec.
206 looks better too
I would rather lose by a mile because i built my own car, than win by an inch because someone else built it for me.

rear axle
cambelt (like any other older car)
and thats about it, i had mine for 3 years and had none of those but on forums it seems to be the most common problems

Where are looking to find a Corsa C 1.8 for £1500?
I've not been in any 206's let alone the Gti so can't compare them but I prefer the looks of the Corsa and don't regret buying it at all. If you were to offer me a straight swap for a 206 with the same mileage etc I would keep the Corsa.

Handling, performance, looks and comfort you want the 206. Not fast by any means but quicker than the Corsa.

And? I hope you've owned or had problems with French cars to come to that assumption I've had more problems with Vauxhalls than my Peugeots.

Seems you bought a smoker then, one that has been abused. they are like every other car on the road, if you look after them you will have no problems

206 over a Corsa C. I'd take the pug all day long. Build quality is so much better imo.
However, i'd take a 1.8 Corsa C over a 206 GTI. Always wanted one

206 gti is faster, better looking, nicer spec, nicer inside, no difference on build - no brainer

Thing to look for is bearings in the rear axle. easy to check, just jack it up and try wobbling the wheel left - right. even if they are worn, you can get a recon axle for £300 and it's only and hour and a half to replace. I've had less hassles from the pugs in my life than the vauxhalls. too. And one of the biggest plus points is the pug is galvanised so it doesn't rust like a corsa.

The worst thing my pug has is laquer peel, common on 106's around that year. The rest of the shell however is mint.
