I bought my Renault Sport Clio 182 about 3 months ago now and love it to bits, insurance is due in Nov, and it aint cheap, going to be about £2,000 FC.
Would you keep the car and pay it? Or sell up for something cheaper.
Im 21, and ideally want to start saving for a house for a year or two to get a decent deposit.
I love my cars and couldnt just sell it and buy a banger to run around in, so would still want something sporty/nice. I can insure a Fabia VRs/Golf GT TDi for £1200, and would be cheaper to run/tax etc.
But then again ive been saving to do a few track days in the Clio.
Should i sell up and start saving for a house, or man up and get it tracked?

Thats the thing, i dont do many miles either i work 3 miles from home. Then at the girlfriends a couple of nights a week which is about 7 miles away, usually use it a fair bit on a weekend. Average about 150-200 miles a week which i dont think is a lot really.

Archie, thats with Brentacre too! So any mods with a 190bhp limit.
Rich, this is true, i was 17 with a 1.4 Sport fully comp for less than £500, and 18 with a 1.6 Sport for around £800.

i'd keep it mate. Ive got a 172. For the money they are, its hard to get the same spec'd car
its performance is good, handling is good, interior is nice and they have good mpg when you drive it tidy.
Keep it

I'd say keep it, if you look hard enough I'm pretty much 100% convinced you could bring the insurance down to just over £1k

Sell it. Unless your car is also your hobbie. The fact you're having these thoughts indicates it isn't so I'd sell up and get something that is still pokey.
My 1.4 16v Punto can shift when it wants to.

To be honest, the most sensible thing to do would be to make savings in every possible area.
I'm sure there are cars available that will have enough poke - that could be insured cheaply.
Or have you thought about doing an advanced driving course? For little outlay, it will improve your skills on the road and track, and comes with the benefit, of having cheaper insurance.
I managed to insure a Calibra Turbo at 19 (many years ago!) for under £1000, after doing my advanced driving course. Car was parked on the road with minimal security.
It can be done.
What will happen is your priorities will change and you WILL want a house, and it will cost alot of money.
You need to make a decision – its all or nothing with the market the way it is, 10% Deposits etc.
That said you are young once..............

Shop around for insurance first though as that seems excessive

Exactly the same situation as myself, however my insurance is £1400 cheaper! I love my gsi but i would rather some money sunk into an investment rather than a car. Im going to be buying a corsa b again which is a huge downgrade but it will be worth it.

Shop around for Insurance first, then decide
IMO
You MUST be able to get covered for less than 2k
