See if it's had the cambelt, tensioners and aux belt done as it's expensive to get done. Exhausts fall off, engine mounts usually are fecked but easily rectified. Shocks leak but again replacements from Renault aren't expensive.

Cheers guys, 200bhp seems achievable quite easy, this one seems to be done proply. HPI checked seems all ok, Whts it like to find replacment gearboxes? Drove a white 172cup last night and was surprised by the torque it had at low revs in like 3rd and 4th

Dunno about boxes ours has had a new one before we bought it and it's a lovely direct feel to it so if it feels sloppy then it's prob fecked.

Torque is fantastic for a n/a car.

I think the box is a jc5. I think used on other renaults to so if you buy using the code you will avoid the Internet 'cliosport' tax.

My box is on 105 k and is still as tight as when I bought it with 15k on the clock

Feel free to u2 me if u need anything as iv had mine 5 years and done most jobs myself in my shed

gearbox is easy to get hold of for the ph2.

Mine has gone on my ph1 so im getting a new one as we speak, my drive shaft was leaking and the box oil emptied, so like said above. Check underneath for any signs of oil.

Nothing major, rear shocks, exhaust fell to bits I keep it well serviced and the engine and box are fine. Had a couple of those annoying things you only seem to get with renaults, this weekend the washer bottle started leaking, how! Only took an hour to whip out and silacone just annoying

they mention cambelt but im sure the aux belt needs done at 72k or 5 years where as the cam is 36k or 5 years? so both should be done.
check all the mounts as worn mounts can also do damage to the gearbox.

I'd go for the normal version because you get auto xenons, wipers, leather and climate and there's no real world difference between the cup and non cup.

Apart from the better wheels on the cup, correct me if im wrong but the colours and front splitter. Also the cup has no aircon so the aux belt kit is wayy cheaper. But then if there is no difference then id go for what is the better looking one, the cup.

Can always just get a non-cup with cup packs. Or add the bits yourself.

No you cant. As john said the 172 is set up differently when it comes to the cup.
Also im sure the cup and non cup have seperate colours.
Buying a non cup and making it a cup replica will require a few expensive parts so add all those up and youll probably be cheaper buying a cup 172.
