Need something which is going to last me 6 months or so until we are all settled into our new house and new arrival has come. Ideally something fun(ish) and fairly inexpensive to run. Insurance isnt to much of an issue but the better the MPG the better. Been looking so far:
- Focus, but not much for 1K
- Saxo VTR but most have been thrashed
- MG ZS/Rover 45

Any other ideas or experience with cars of this value?

puma 1.7 16v get a decent-ish one for 1k. only thing is the rear arches will probably be bubbling, but mechanically wise it should be sound.

Have seen a few of them, but just assumed it would be a pig for £1000. Also a few 1.8 corrado's which i thought would be fun!

MX-5 is a safe bet but expect rotten sills or leaky roof at that price.

Good choice

I've had two of these in the 1.8 version and they are really good...underestimated thats what they are

good mpg
strong engine (aslong as you dont rag it from cold you will have no HGF issues)
great handlind
fairly nippy (120hp)

12v Corsa B.

Sold mine for £500 and it was mint. Good for 45+mpg and cost next to nothing to run. If you want to save money you may as well save it in a big way.

Or a 1.5D 106 or something.
