My mate is after a bit of help wiring up his Mk2 XR2 engined kit car - building a loom from scratch!
I've drawn up a brief circuit of what needs to be included, along with the relevant connections, however, fuses are the main problem i.e. where is it necessary to place them and what values to use for which location.
Feel free to edit and re-post the circuit diagram with fuses/amendments!!
It's going to be running on carbs obviously - what circuit does this require i.e. idle cut off etc?
We're going to run the fuel pump separately off it's own switch/circuit for safety.
Any discussion/comments would be much appreciated.

Fit a fuse inline with all electrical items on the + side. To know what fuse you should use, you need to know the rating of the component. The easiest way to find out is to look at the wiring diagram for the car the parts came from, either in the workshop manual or in the back of the Haynes.
You can wire multiple low power items off of one fuse, for example dashboard lights, dials and maybe the radio. Things like lights should preferably have their own left and right fuses so that if one side goes you're not stuck with nothing.

Cheers Ed, thought that would be the case, but just wanted to check! I'll fit a fuse immediately before each component.
Do you know how the wiring goes for the carbs?

The only wiring that I could think you'd have on the carbs would be for a throttle position sensor, the wiring for that would depend on the sensor type and the ECU?

It's a non-ecu unit. Apparently the Mk1 XR2's had an ECU, the Mk2's didn't?
I'll give the above circuit a go with the correct fuses and see what happens!!
I'm giving him a hand, as he's on the verge of selling it if we can't at least get the engine started in the next week or two!
Does the wiring look ok apart from that Ed?
