i've had a really bad cold and chesty/phlegmy cough for 2 weeks and yesterday i noticed the skin under my tongue (connected to lower jaw, not my actual tongue) has become sore.
just looked in the mirror and saw 2 small spot like lumps.
anyone ever had these before? do i need to go to doctors or will a good dose of paracetamol and some man the fuck up tablets be sufficient?

Stop licking your mrs out mate.
Go to the Docs, see wha they say? Or ring the NHS nurse, its free to do so, and puts your mind at rest if you're worring about it.

Is it not just a mouth ulcer?

Your lymph nodes? They become inflamed during various conditions, part of the immune system.

Sounds like a mouth ulcer to me, I always get them & I have one in exactly the same place at the moment by the sounds of it. Painful little feckers at times, get some Bonjela or something else which I can't for the life of me remember the name, they usually numb any pain on it. Tasty too

I would get it checked
My mate had a lump under her tongue when we were at school which turned into something like a second tongue (bleugh)
She ended up having to get it surgically removed in the end

Then again, if you go in with a mouth ulcer thinking you were growing a second tongue, you'd look absolutely ridiculous

true
I remember a couple of years ago I was really ill and convinced myself I had lyme disease (I think my fever had made me a bit loopy) NHS 24 basically just laughed me off the phone!
