I remember watching a film years ago where someone went into a house and spotted a picture on the wall of some gunslingers and he pointed out that the gun one of them was holding wasn't invented until the 20th century.

That's stating the obvious. As Cavey said, if they can time travel then they probably have some form of communication system. Or it could be a two-way radio of sorts.
Eitherway, we'll never know what it actually is. But it does look like they're holding something in their left hand to their ear.

i love the fact people actually think that we will never be using mobile phones that work even when there are no antenna's/reception.
you really think if we invented time travel then we couldn't invent a poxy cellular phone that doesn't need satellite/phone masts to work?
