Basically, i want to know your opinions on the matter, or what you would do in the situation.
Currently own a 2004/54 Clio 182, lovely car, love it to peices, but its costing me a lot to insure/run.
Renewal is up next week and cheapest i can get is to stick with Admiral for £1,906 FC
Thing is, i hardly use the car, i work 3 miles from home, and all i use it for is to go to work and back, to the gf's and back, and sometimes for a little drive on a weekend etc.
I get paid weekly, so i work out my outgoings weekly, it will cost me £40 a week to insure it, and i put around £30 petrol in a week, so £70 per week.
My company is moving soon, so instead of being 3 miles from work, i will be 11 miles, not a huge difference, but instead of 30 miles per week, it will be 110. Thus meaning more fuel to be used.
Should i just sell it and buy something cheaper, i still want to be into modding etc, if i was to sell id like another Corsa C SRi, either 1.4, or 1.7 CDTi, decked on Porsche D90's. I can insure either of these for around £1,000, so saving £900 for a start, plus the saving on fuel etc.
What would you do?

I'd get rid of the Clio, it's a no brainer really, there's plenty of time for quicker cars.

I doubt naything will be much cheaper to run unless its not a performance car?
Then you will spend £X amount modding it and not be as happy with it?
I would keep it tbh.

Saving £900 p/a on insurance premiums would be quite a saving though Jambo! And presumably on the Corsa's tax is cheaper too?
I guess the only trouble is fuel economy will never be great travelling such short distances as the engine won't get a chance to get up to temperature.

Sell it.
Is it really worth paying nearly 2k a year to insure it.

Mattk- Cant afford to insure a car and a scooter
Stavs- Been told on ClioSport to put it up at £4500 and go from there, unsure tbh.
I see what your saying Jambo, just the insurance is daft
Adam_B- Its insured to do 8k a year atm
Rich H- Yeah its currently averaging 27mpg due to it always been on cold start on a morning/night for the measly 3 mile drive. If i go for a run, and it warms up, it goes up to 38mpg if i drive it right.
Corsa Nut, im 22, but only have 1 year no claims bonus, and 3 points for speeding.

Arrr right Still high that though? Can you not insure your dad on it etc to help? Or put it in his name and become a named driver and earn your own no claims? Seems a shame to sell up TBH

Admiral do seem to be cheapest for a lot of things atm, but have you tried Greenlight if you've tried Brentacre and Flux? Greenlight were nearly half the price compared to the other 2 when I got quotes before!

Try Avivia they where cheap for me on Ins.
Changing cars costs money, you know the one you have is good so would you risk dicking around with a new car? Insurance money you would loose switching?
