I'm currently replacing all the door handles at the minute. I'm working on the bathroom door but I'm stumped as to how the lock is supposed to work. There are 2 separate holes, one for the handle bar and one for the lock bar. Dunno if I'm missing something or not. Anyone else done these sorts of handle before and know how they work lol.

Yeah you actually need the mortice lock that goes in the door.

See here

http://www.screwfix.com/prods/96687/Security/Mortice-Locks/Bathroom-Locks/Union-65mm-Bathroom-Mortice-Lock-Satin-Chrome-2

You will need to get the right type for your door.

Haha oh right...It did make me wonder. The old style one that was on didn't have that but used a cam on the inside of the handle to stop you moving the handle down. Might take it bk to screwfix and swap it for a normal door handle and get a small latch. Save me hrs of chiselling

Yeah you could just put a bolt latch accross, would be alot less work.

Called bathroom/bedroom locks i believe, point being that you can still gain access in case of an emergency. Parents recently got a load of new handles for their place and i spent hours fannying around fitting them and ran in the same problem a few times. Look nice though

Yea we've got these types of locks in our new build, they are very useful if you have kids and they lock themselves in the bathroom or something, you can just unlock it from the outside again.

Also, funny to the see the reaction on your missus face when you disturb her taking a shit

edit - following on from my last point, lock someone in there from the outside who doesnt know about the lock, funny as fuck.

Yes, I'm such a twat

haha...seems there is fun to be had here. Thing is I'm single and live on my own so locking myself in doesn't really have the same effect.

Surely there's nobody in the world who couldn't work out how to open the lock if you turned it from the outside

Maybe the MASSIVE thumb turn on the inside might be a clue?

And the fact you turn it to lock the door?

What I meant John is they go in and dont lock the door, you lock it from the outside then they try to open the door, sometimes they walk into it because they just expect it to open
