Maybe help zone related, maybe not.
Anyone had the pas pump on their corsa actually die? (fluid pas)
Mine was knocking and banging away, so replaced the whole pump. That was a few months ago.
Now its bloody mental The noise can be heard inside the car over everything else
But the noise comes and goes.
Obviously i need to replace it asap, but at £100 a pop from what i can find.........
Whats the liklihood of it going all together? and if it did, whats likely to happen? would it seize altogether and knacker the belt?
Ta.

If you take the belt off then the pump should stop running (from what I can remember).
Just do that for the time being

Yep mine is currently half knackered well Started making a faint squeek on start up but now it makes a constant screech which gets louder the more you rev it. It will most likely be the bearing which has gone on it.
I got a second hand one off ebay for something like £15 which I'm gonna fit when the weather sorts itself out

Bin it all and get an EPS system from an SXi, it's far far better than the belt driven system.

Bash fuck out of it and see what happens?
There isnt any way of replacing just the pulley/bearings though IIRC

From what i can remember from the XE pump, it was a sealed unit. May be wrong.
Just get a scrapyard item for 20/30 quid.
Or just whack it!

Would a 1.4 pump be the same for a 1.6?
Scrap yard jobbie for 30 quid would be a fair chunk of a new one, and might last as long as this one (not very )

Yep, same.
Sure its not just the tensioner? They are always dieing. Get the belt off, and spin everything to see if anything is noisy.
I've been driving around with a fucked tensioner for ages, and in the cold it sounds even worse.

So would you say that if something is whining from the aux belt its on its way out?

Something is on its way out, Could be the pas pump, could be the tensioner roller, could be the alternator bearings.
Cambelt rollers can also be noisy, but they would show up if you took the aux belt off and started the car.

I'm onto the 3rd pump on the XE, running them dry fucks them up. It's the fluid itself that lubricates them.

Manual gearbox oil is preety thick due to it being just slung around the gearbox by the diff, but presuming its automatic fluid, its preety thin.
