The hammer was too blunt if that makes sense? All it takes is a sharp point. i.e a nail or a screew with very little effort at all.

The windscreen however would smash instantly.

I had the same trouble last week, I was taking bits off a GSI in a scrap yard which on top of a Audi, I wanted the clocks, so hit the Audi window about 6x with a 4lb lump hammer and it wouldn't have it.
So throught fuck it and got my step ladder out of my van
