Are you better filling the tank, or putting a tenner in here and there?

Just got into a debate, and I seem to use more fuel putting a tenner in here and there..

discuss.

How is that possible

I find my driving style changes when I'm nearing an empty tank which means I get a few extra miles out of the last gallon or 2.

Could also be the needle in your car doesn't move as much when you only put a tenner in thinking you are running out sooner etc

I must take it more easy filling the tank then, thinking how much I've just spent!

i find i use more fuel when i put in a full tank.

the car is also heavier, so if you don't do many miles, you're carrying around all that extra weight for nothing.

if you have a car with a big fuel tank, then thats potentially 50+kg's of extra weight.

i don't change my driving style as such, might be in my mind but the car feels lighter and easier to get the speed up when it's nearing empty rather than carrying a full tank.

I tend to put in £10-20 at a time. Only so that I've not got money 'tied up' in the car in petrol, in case I need money for something else. If I'm skint at the end of the week I'd rather have twenty quid in the wallet than have it in petrol in the car. Can you tell I'm hopeless at budgeting...

If I only put tenners in I'd run out of fuel all the time

I always fill up, but that's cause £10 of fuel only gets me about 30 miles so I'd be filling up all the time

lets chuck some rumours out there!!

-keeping a low tank will make the rest of fuel tank rust inside

-having a full tank means the fuel pump does less work

I gave up on the putting a tenner in here and there about a week after starting driving and visiting the petrol station 5 times in 5 days. Now it's just not practical with the miles I do. About a month back I did the 5 times in 5 days again but everyone of them was filling up. £270ish of petrol in 5 days

Tenner at a time for me. My Clio will do between 80-90 miles to £10 of fuel no matter how I drive it.

If i put £20 I get about 130 miles, fuck knows where the other 20-30 miles go over putting two seperate tenners in

also driving with the tank empty all of the time means you are using all of the shit that collects at the bottom.

I'm not sure people go miles out of their way put petrol in. Most petrol stations are on the roads people use when going somewhere anyway.

Last time I checked, a car had a fuel filter to filter the "said shit" out of the sealed petrol tank
