when i was little i had a train set in an "L" shape the went around 2 walls of my bedroom. Me and my dad built it together and I used to love playing with it. As I got older I tired of it and it was taken down and thrown out/sold ect.
Today I got a phone call, my mam had been clearing the loft out and had found some of my old stuff. I salvaged these..
All 4 of the engines work (the big one in the big box makes a loud sqeel noise though) and i have 3 power packs, loads of houses ect, a mountain of track (although this is a bit ropey due to being removed from the old set) and a load of cariages ect!! I take care of my stuff so its all good condition.
Worth anything?
I need a hobby with the car going to stop me wasting cash when I'm bored and if I'm 100% honest I'm very tempted to get a board and build it all up but I'm thinking at 22 its sad and I'm too young for a hobby like this.
What does cs think? Anyone got/want/are interested in train sets?

Some of its my great uncles that I inherited so has extra personal value and is quite old.

Kind of but I dont have the space. Used to have it in the loft as a kid on a load of hardboard with scenery and the lot.
Had an extension built and the loft is no more anymore so its been boxed up since

Had the same diesel electric (British Rail Class 40 iirc) It all went, along with a load of Intercity locomotives and carriages (+ a load of others), to my brother considering he has kids.
Problem with Hornby is the cost of anything, it's stupidly expensive - a track piece can be £10, decent steam locomotive £100-200+ and anything DCC and the cost just spirals.

My Dad has a big train set in the loft. Was built over about 20 years or so. Doesn't do anything to it anymore though.

I always wanted a Hornby train set since I was a kid. Still think they're kinda cool now, but never bothered to splash the cash.
Like someone else said, what do you do with it when it's running. Looking at the things go round in circles is a bit shit

Well a circular layout is a bit unrealistic and admittedly boring
I used to be into this sort of thing when I was a kid being from a railway family, and some of the layouts really do have a lot of attention to detail. The more interesting ones tend to be based around depots and shunting yards etc. But yeah only so much fun you can have even with that sort of thing

I didn't mean literal circles. Even with tunnels and shit they are still doing the same routes over and over.
I love the attention to detail and would love to see one finished, but only for like 5 minutes.

You know what. i'm actually jealous. I sold mine when i was about 17 because i thought it was childish. I had about 3k worth of stuff (no lie)I also had a house door with mdf on top and a hole cut out the middle with my track on which me and my dad made. it was amazing, I advertised it and when the guy came he bought it all and after he left i was gutted.I wish i still had it all now.
I was even tempted to buy some and build a layout in my loft but never even bothered
dont sell it!
edit: found it
I had this built up
