It's an old enigne in a 1995 car, is it right that the gauge goes RIGHT round to the Red (and into it!) before the cooling fan switches on? Even then it goes off at 100 degrees? Out of town when you're driving it it cools down as it should.

I just remember my 1.2 16v W reg car never getting about 95 before the old fan came on and bought it back down to 90~ again?

Bit odd seeing a gauge that moves tbh - I'm used to my cars going from 50 to 90 degrees and staying there, rain, shine, traffic, heat or not!

Hope you realize a thermostat on a 1.2i 8v means cambelt off and the rear cambelt cover off too.

Id change the rad switch before doing the thermostat, Its easier!

Are the gauges 100% accurate? My 1.2 8v kicked in at more or less 100 when sitting in traffic
Thermostat stuck closed and started overheating and it was a pulley off job to replace. Ridiculous design for a thermostate

My 1.2 8v did this when I got it, went round all the electric connections.. Disconnect and reconnect and now the fan kicks in around 95 ish.
