I keep getting a message pop up saying phone memory is full. Ive had to remove almost all my apps and still only have 20Mb free. WTF is happening? I'm trying to do the 2.2 update (as i still not done it  ) and it wont let me, saying i need atleast 25Mb free on the phone.
Also when it starts doing the update (that fails due to the above reason), it try's to back up, but says backup failed  . WTF. I have a memory card in and all that. If i do the update (eventually) will i lose all my settings and config and all them?

Try moving apps to the SD card if you haven't already
You won't lose any settings when the update completes

Delete all text messages and email (including sent items) this will free up loads of memory

Rooted phone by any chance? I dont remember being able to do A2SD before 2.2 on standard phone. As said delete emails, texts, you are absolutely sure all apps are gone? Get a File Manager (Astro) and go through the folders looking for things that have saved on to phone memory instead of SD such as .apk (app packages), also, transfer all pics / vids to PC and delete them off phone.
If you have tried to download 2.2 before its probably already saved to your phone memory ready to go just needs starting, think mine did this because I itnerrupted installation
