Greetings all!

I currently have an Astra GSi - pretty much standard running ~200bhp, 0-60 in ~7 seconds etc... you know the score.

I'm graduating Uni this year and have secured a job in Bristol, but I don't know what kind of area I'll be living in down there and my GSi kinda stands out a bit with the Lenso alloys, being arden blue and massive spoiler etc.

So, I need ideas of a new car as I might swap in summer.
Preferably:
- At least the same power ish, don't want to consider it a downgrade
- No more than 10k
- Not look as eyecatching to thieves/twats, standard looking if you don't know what to look for
- Be a good sized car, not like a corsa/clio or anything small as I need the boot space
- Decent mpg on a motorway run, I can get 35-40 out of mine which I think's reasonable

Currently I was thinking of a Golf R32, but my mate has said they loose all the ooomph when you get above 4k revs and are a bit disappointing....but I've not driven one so can't confirm - just know they sound awesome and look fairly standard apart from the tailpipes.

And maybe an Audi A3 (Same engine I believe) or a Golf GT TDI - A 180bhp version?

Anyway....suggestions welcome as I'm probably missing some obvious ones.

Cheers

Alternatively, u2u me about where you've got a job, and I can just recommend a decent area to live in, where you won't have to worry about your car.

Tbh mate, it doesnt really matter where you live or what car you have now-a-days.

If someone wants it/likes it or is jealous, they will damage/steal from it.

look at tom's car, private car park, as far as im aware its a decent area? and his wheels were stolen.

I only have a corsa and it was damage in a car park covered by camera's.

Park it somewhere that you can keep an eye on it and have a decent alarm.

Seat/Skoda spring to mind for me, certainly when it comes to
"Not look as eyecatching to thieves/twats, standard looking if you don't know what to look for"

Leon Cupra's are ~ 180/225 bhp depending on which one you get (i dont know the difference but some have the 225 engine)
they look very standard apart from some subtle differences.
Not sure what it kicks out by an Octavia VRS is another subtle looking car (if you don't get canary yellow!)

edit: Honda Accord is an option too, would be a high end sporty model/trim to be close to 200bhp

Cheers Tom, but I worked there over summer on an internship so I have an idea of where's alright etc, just I'll be shacking up with some other newbies who might not care so much so it's gonna be hit and miss.

I lived in Filton over summer which doesn't have the best of reputations but my car was on a driveway all the time which helped a bit.

Cheers Fonz I'll have a good look

I assume you'll be working at either BAE, or Rolls-Royce then?

Bradley Stoke is a decent place to live - not too far from Filton, but also not walking distance. Say 3-4 miles? Easily cyclable if you want to.
