Just wondering if anyone else has experienced this? I have never been in negative funds and the only direct debit payment I have is my mobile contract. My friend got a Tesco Credit Card and I fancied getting one as I was bored one night. I got declined Phoned Tesco the next day and they can't give me a reason why, and my only option is to contest it by sending them 3 bank statements and a written letter. So I didn't bother. I came home yesterday to a letter from my bank, an already accepted Credit Card that I can take out. How the fuck does that work?

i know it sounds bad but sometimes its actually to have a previous credit rating , even if you had a bad one and paid it off you would probably still have a better chance then someone who has never borrowed before.

i had this problem when i tried to get a loan, i had never borrowed before but would only get massive APR's whereas friend at work has been blacklisted years ago , has had lots of loans but still gets them easily

I thought this. It's like they only want to give a credit card to someone they think is going to fuck up so they can charge them!

As much as I can see your point Barndoor, I have 4 credit cards now and have always paid my balance off in full every month, never missed a payment or anything. I don't have an overdraft or owe any other money and I've always been accepted with reasonable credit limits no problem

Its a good idea to to get your first credit card through the bank that you have your money in. They will almost definitely give you one. Then after a few months, when you've built up some credit rating, you can apply for the tesco one.

As above generally you need to have had previous good credit to be able to get credit

I'll bet American Express would give you a card with their extortionate rates.

To behonest you're better off without debt!

Best of trying your bank for a first card, or one of those stupidly high interest capital one cards, as long as you pay it off in full there should be no problems.

Everytime I log in to Halifax online banking they try and stiff me with a 15% credit card because our mortgage and joint account is with them, HSBC dont try this shit every time

Ben I saved 35 a month by changing my life and home cover this week. I just took them both originally with the mtg before I cottoned on how much I was overpaying.
