Coffee will also cool down to room temperature, 21 degrees is quite a bit colder than 100.

if something is below room temp it will warm up to room temp if something is hotter than room temp it will cool down to meet the average temperature ie the room temp.the water and the coffee will be the same temp after a few hours

It's surely psychological?
Although a hot drink will cool down quicker than a cold drink will warm up!

Slight change of direction here.
Bend over and touch your toes then stand back up. Put your middle finger on top of your index finger and bite on them for 20 seconds. Now try and touch your toes again.
You can now stretch further, FACT! was on the radio

All in your mind. You go to drink a hot drink and expect it to be hot, as said the difference in temperature makes it feel alot colder than it really is. If it were possibly to say drink water that was -70° then room temparature water would seem alot hotter.

Because you can't feel the tips of your fingers so the new point that your brain registers as the tips of your fingers is shorter. So your brain tells your body to just go that bit further. Yet again it's all physcological. This may sound like a load of pish but it sounded right in my heed!
