went down one of the worst roads ive ever been down at the weekend, a few members will know it!

anyway my car is now shaking and pulling left! but how do i go about claiming?
the road is half council half private

if i try to claim off the council will they just say its not their problem?
do i get the car fixed then send them the bill or wait for them to reply?

I'd wait for them to reply first, however you could get a quote and send them that and see what they do, along with pictures of the road surface and damage to your car.

get pictures of the damage to the road, get a mechanic to give the car the once over, up here it tend to be that they ignore you unless theres a good few complaints about the same section of road, i only know one person who was lucky enough to get a claim paid and that was for 1 wheel and 4 tyres on a subaru other then that everyone i know has been unlucky or returned to the scene to late to find the pothole filled

Could you get a mate to record your car as you drive away from him to show how the handling isn't right?

Wasting your time mate, I blew a tyre and bent an alloy and my local council told me because I'm the first person to report the hole there's nothing they can do ( because they didn't know ). This hole was about 5 inches deep and maybe 2 foot wide and full of water when I hit it.

So if you are making a claim take photos (lots), estimates from garages for repairs and then call under another name and report it. Then call with your name and submit your claim, but will prob be wasting your time.

Here's my story:

You've just got to build up a case and prove neglect on the council's part.

Get a mate to ring up half an hour before you do

if you have the time, do what everyone says (take pics of EVERYTHING including children if you need to as its about the only time you will get away with it. put something next to the hole to show how big/deep it is, and also the damage to the car etc)

then call out a mechanic or something to assess the damage and if possible video record it all. or just pick whore EVERYTHING.
then give the council a phone to say what has happened and you have proof and you want to claim.
Lastly, hide in a bush during the night and film the council filling the hole back up for proof because they will say they repaired the pot hole months ago.

Pothole:

Cost £101 for the alloy to be fixed plus I had to have all my tracking redone etc so probs more like £150 in total

That looks more on the verge than a pothole in the road.

Yea it isn't a pothole as such... but you can see where the council has tarmaced around it so they are aware of the bad conditions of the road... it's not likely I'm going to get any monies back though

there was a twat of a pot hole on my way to work in about october last year, right in the middle of a bend just where the wheels track in the road. I sent an email to the council asking how I would go about a compensation claim as I had damaged my car and what evidence I needed, told them where the pot hole was and what it was adjacent to ect, 24 hours later it was filled in

I never even hit it with my car just got pissed off with driving round it as its an otherwise perfect road

must have had a bucket load of complaints about that one as my mate tried it with one near his and it never got done

had my wheels off no signs of damage to them or anything underneath.

put my spare wheels on and it seems to drive better.

could it be a twisted wheel?
