In theory yes, unless they changed the bumpers etc.

I wouldn't say it's as simple as that, as anybody could get a plate made up at Halfords etc in a UK size.

I think the fact it's listed as a MX-5 rather than a Eunos goes in it's favour though.

Edit: Hadn't seen Gev's post by the time I posted, so perhaps it is that simple...

Bumpers/recess are usually different to accomodate the jap shape plate.

but can be changed relatively easy, best way to be 100% sure is the logbook.

mine has a rear foglight in the bumper (standard) and an import numberplate panel (which i changed) but its a uk mddel (dakar edition 1 of 400), there easy to change so you cant always just guess its a uk or import model by its looks..

the imports have:

import rear panel
foglight in bumber (but some uk models did also obviously)
tombstone seats (like the porshe, with built in headrests)

but just do a reg check or something, sure it would come up?

Just done an insurance quote. Me on my own on a UK car with no NCB = £650, on an import = £950

just be careful of the rust on the uk models especially on the older models (like a G reg, 1990 etc) but it may be rust free, or already been treated

thats why went for the latest one i could, P reg 1996/7

David, I would be a bit wary about that car you have posted, its been up on ebay for quite some time. The price has dropped considerably though. The general consensus is the imports are better out of the box but most parts (like the LSD) can be sourced and bolt straight on to UK cars. Having driven a UK mx5 with an open diff and mine with a Limited slip diff I can highly recommend one!

That's not true !

It's the importer in the UK that bolts those horrible fog lights on to pass it's first MOT

I was lucky enough not to get one bolted on, and to have had my reverse light converted.

Yeah that sounds about right, but i swear i read somewhere that the UK 1.8's had a high level brake light.

sounds like everyone has given their piece of experience.

based on the photos i would say yes it is a UK spec.

the number plate and resessed fog light is a UK spec clue,
from the interior shot there is also no A/C which was very rare in Japan and very common in the UK.

however the car is white, which is very rare in the UK and common in Japan (their BRG)

there are no photos of the clocks but if you saw some and the odometer was in Miles rather than Km then further reason to believe it is UK spec (imports like mine have odomters in Km)
