Get a clunking noise when I turn the wheel, usually when the car is still or going slow.
Just had an MOT and the link arms had gone so thought that was it. But I've since replaced them but it's still doing it.
Astra GSi btw...any ideas?

does it clunk as you turn the wheel, or does it sound like its clunking with the road wheels rotation, if its knocking when you switch the steering back and fore sounds like worn bushes, lower arm

my focus done this on the drivers side after i lowered it. i think it was because when we took the strut off the bearings fell out and couldn't find 1 or 2 to put back in.
just left it, seemed alright.

i think it's more as you turn the wheel, not the wheel rotation.
it's been like this for over a year now so can't be anything too hazardous.
you reckon it's strut bearings? the springs are lowered but think the struts are standard

My old car did that, it was the bush at the bottom of the steering column. Made a pop then clunk when turned left to right while stationary.

I never changed it, although tightening a nut at the bottom of the column helped, no idea what it'll be like on your car but have a try.

why would i be? it was only making a noise when pulling out of turnings and it didn't seem to affect anything.

So bearings 'fell out' and you didn't think to replace them? No offence but do you think that Ford just put them there for shits and giggles?
Just because it didn't 'seem to affect' anything doesn't mean it won't.
In fact, just realised you said it made a noise when turning - you'll find that this would be two surfaces scraping fuck out of each other because there's meant to be a bearing in between them.

well i drove the car for a year like it and never had a single problem. sorry for not shelling out silly money on a new strut even though the one on the car was fine.
edit: elite direct (tyre place, good reputation) also took a look at it for me when i had new tyres put on and they even said it's fine.

Ah right, well as long as you let a tyre place check it that's ok then...
I'll ask again, do you not think that Ford know more about the car than you and fitted one because they deemed it nessesary? And if it fell off the strut, how could you not just re-fit it? Don't see why it would require a whole new strut.

If you've changed the springs id put money on the springs not being positioned correctly.

what's the topmount?
and how would they not be positioned correctly? The ends not pushed up against the bushes?

Fuckign hilarious mate, I'm the argumentative little sod when you were the guy that questioned what speed I estimated a motorbike was going.
So if we're name calling you're just a hypocritical spineless wish-you-were-still-driving-an-ST cunt.
