How reliable are these engines ?
From a cavalier (mk2 ) sri i believe

Has anyone had experience good / bad with them ?

is it worth putting a 1.8 8v in iirc 115bhp ?
Where as a 1.6 16v with powerbox is less work and i think would be the same bhp roughly ?

it depends what you want mate, i.e everyone has 1.6 16vs, yeah there a good nippy engine,

But from the experiance i have had with a 1.8 8v there torquey motors,
Like i said the one we have here will keep up with my c20xe and with the right gearbox will be quicker,

Its up to you mate the 1.8 8v is also a big block so later on in life you could turn the into a c20let/ c20xe without the hassel of geting mounts

Cheers mate, would make sense for an xe later on without the hassle of buying mounts and driveshafts ect, think i will go for the 1.8 8v from a cav sri or astra gte, cams and pulleys with F16 box

Price, im a a budjet average price for a c20xe is £250+ for a decent one
I can get a 1.8 8v for £100 / £150

get a x18xe1, same power but small block so you can keep your gearbox, mounts, shafts etc

What about a 1.6 8v MPi? I had one in my astra cesaro, C16SE i think and it was rapid. Torquey little engine, really basic and small block and could stick some carbs on it

do you use the same starting loom as the 1.2 8v

Best to look for an astra cesaro, mine was M reg and only on around 60k. Be alot newer than a nova gsi one

Im not sure, surely the 1.2 is more restrictive though? And it has the cat in the down pipe, not sure about the astra

Heres a pic of mine if any its any help

im sure it was cammed, used to have a fair engine not and you felt the power come in alot at 3k and note changed. Saw it on a forum a few owners after me and he said it was cammed. I never bothered checking

the 1.2 8v exhaust fits and it doesnt restrict them really
