United, like many other clubs, are an institution that it would most likely take the gates of hell to freeze over before it went bust. Madrid have spent outwith their means for decades and they could still go out and spend 200 million in the blink of an eye.

All I ever hear from bloody Man City fans is how our time is up and we're going bust etc.

I've given up bothering saying anything back to them now, I know we aren't going bust and make plenty of money and most people know that too apart from numb City fans. One tried telling me yesterday they've spent less on players than we have

MWG, they spent more on Milner alone than we did on Smalling & the amazing Bebe.

I can believe it. City have bought a team of £20m+ players where as United used to buy one a year.

Edited for you there. I'll see if I can find the article I saw about it. City were well ahead of everyone.

Doesn't say when in 2010 that's up till either. Both City and Chelsea have spent a bit in January this year as well.

How many big money signings have Man United made though?

Rooney
Berbatov
Ferdinand
Veron

Probably some others but spread out over a number of years. The best players were (relatively) cheap. i.e. Ronaldo or came up through the ranks.

That's impressive by Arsenal, they will probably get it into 'Minus'' in the summer when they lose Cesc.
