From a topic on another forum, it seems a lot of people don't know/realise the various speed limits for different vehicle classes on the different types of roads.


Car (inc car derived vans max 2T laden)
30 - residential
60 - single carriageway
70 - Dual carriageway
70 - Motorway

Car and trailer/caravan
30 - residential
50 - single carriageway
60 - Dual carriageway
60 - Motorway

Bus, Coach & minibus
30 - residential
50 - single carriageway
60 - Dual carriageway
70 - Motorway

LGV upto 7.5T
30 - residential
50 - single carriageway
60 - Dual carriageway
70 - Motorway

HGV
30 - residential
40 - single carriageway
50 - Dual carriageway
60 - Motorway

Did you know all of these limits?

I've never seen a bus get to 70 before

Is that correct about 3.5 and 7.5t classes being able to do 70 on a motorway?

same one that flew past me when i was doing 75 arsehole drivers they are.

I thought anything bigger than a car ie a transit and above was only allowed to drive up to 60mph

Its worrying the amount of people i know that cant tell the difference between a single or dual carriageway

Goods vehicle limits are slightly misleading - there are additional limits in place based on the exact classification and age of the vehicle.
