Just seen this for sale on Gumtree....

Ad seems genuine enough (if that's even possible) and I havnt seen the car for a while!

Sceptical but seems a good combo!

I'm not sure what to think about that. Figures sound good but seems wrong for an ek9.

That absolutely, positively defeats the purpose of such a focused hot hatch. Putting a diesel into the most hardcore Civic they made until recently is a waste. He could have sold that and bought an EK4 VTi (or Jordan) and put the engine in and saved himself some cash too!

Without question it'll be quicker in a straight line. But a big heavy diesel would affect the handling. The characteristics of the engine will dampen the experience too!

A Type R is hardly a rare car though is it, if it was one of the older dying Civics (no idea what they are called though) then yea fair enough but if the figures are right surely its the best possible mix of performance, economy and styling? I would definitely have that, if it had been converted professionally with a warranty, although I guess the remap voids that anyway

The EK9 has something rediclious like 187bhp STANDARD from a N/A 1.6. For that reason alone it's ledendary IMO. And to get replaced with a oil burner?! WTF!!

Seems a bit weird to me. Why replace a 1.6 petrol with a 2.2 TD - surely the cost of doing the conversion coupled with the fact that diesel is so much more expensive ruined his ideas of saving money from the whole thing?

I've always want to put a 1.9 from an SRi 150 in a Corsa - would be interesting to say the least!

EK9's weren't available in the UK. They are a 185bhp 1.6 that weighs about a tonne and have an lsd as standard! When it came out over ten years ago it was hardcore, and compared to the hot hatches now its even more raw Honda have always known how to make a car handle, and adding a heavy diesel to one of their best fwd achievements is shocking.

Just what I was about to say Baskey, it may be a great engine in a new shape Civic cruiser but I wouldn't say it suits that car. Not to say it would be terrible to drive, just wouldn't be the rev happy engine the car deserves.

Looks pretty high at the front for having a heavy diesel lump fitted.

EK9 was a legendary car with its high power output from a 1.6,until Nissan released the Pulsar VZR N1.

197bhp from the 1.6 SR16VE motor.Thats where my money would be going.
